New outdoor enclosure for the bonobos (2014)
After a construction time of almost two years, the outdoor enclosure for the bonobos was opened on 23 June 2014. The bonobos, which are also known as pygmy chimpanzees, are now also able to show off their climbing skills outdoors.
There are countless climbing opportunities in the enclosure of more than 300 m² in size and 11 m in height.
Visitors are able to observe the goings-on from shelters with large glass viewing windows. The complex can be used alternately by both the chimpanzees and the bonobos.
