New enclosures for Lions and Tigers (2007)
On 24 May 2007 the 4 ha extension was officially opened. The new enclosure for the Siberian Tiger and the largest lion enclosure in a German zoo were built on the new grounds. Visitors have an interesting and surprising view of the enclosure, for example through large observation windows, over watering holes from the observation tower, or from the observation cave in the middle of the lion enclosure.
In August the King Penguins moved into their temporary enclosure where they were kept during the renovations of their old enclosure. The new King Penguin enclosure is one of the largest and most modern in Europe and with an extraordinary attraction: a 15-meter-long acrylic glass tunnel under the water's surface.
