Zoological Gardens Wuppertal
Rich in tradition, the Wuppertal Zoological Gardens is one of the oldest zoos in Germany. Situated on one side of the valley, the Zoo is characterised by wide grassy areas, large ponds and old, established trees making it one of the most beautiful gardens of its type. Today, thanks to several excellent investments plus new constructions made especially in recent years, the Wuppertal Zoo has some of the most modern approaches to animal husbandry in Europe.
The history of the Wuppertal Zoo
A detailed overview of the history of the Wuppertal Zoo is available in the Zoo chronicle "125 Years Zoological Gardens Wuppertal (125 Jahre Zoologischer Garten Wuppertal)" by the Zoo Director, Dr. Ulrich Schürer. Unfortunately, the book "125 Jahre Zoologischer Garten Wuppertal" is no longer available.
