Zoo history

At the beginning of the 20^th century the Wuppertal Zoo also introduced outdoor areas without bars. These were based on the first examples of outdoor enclosures at the famous Hagenbeck animal park in Hamburg-Stelling. The polar landscape for Seals and Polar Bears was the first outdoor enclosure to be built, and two years later a rocky outcrop for the Lions replaced the previous cages.
